Wash your stump daily. Since the limb will be kept inside your prosthesis throughout the day, your skin is at risk of being irritated or infected by moisture. You will need to take extra care to properly and thoroughly clean your extremity each day to prevent the development of a skin condition. Make sure our extract is kept as clean and dry as possible, both before and after using your prosthesis.

  • A minor rash or irritation will become an ulcer or cut and prevent you from using your prosthesis until it heals.
  • Check your stump daily to check for blisters, sores or other signs of irritation. You should use a mirror or get help from someone to do a detailed check.
  • Before going to bed, clean your stump with mild soap and water, pat dry and apply a small amount of lotion on the limb and massage gently into the skin.
  • Keeping our extract clean and dry will help you get the most out of your denture.

Take a bath at night, not in the morning. Some swelling may occur due to hot water or the position you place your leg during bathing and showering. This swelling can affect the form of your prosthesis when you wear it. Therefore, it is good to take a bath in the evening when you are ready to remove your prosthesis at night.

  • Taking a bath in the morning can make it difficult for you to wear your denture properly.
  • Bathing can affect new amputees most, causing their limbs to swell and change the shape of their prosthesis.

Monitor your skin for signs of irritation or infection. It is very important to take care of the health of your stump. If you notice any signs that your stump is affected by your prosthesis, contact your prosthodontist or doctor as soon as possible.
