Prosthesis is the general name of knee-high-foot and electronic arm prosthesis devices made to imitate missing body parts. As a result of injuries, tumor surgeries, gangrene, inflammation and similar organ damage, the damaged limb is removed (amputation) in order to preserve the health of the rest of the body. The prostheses that imitate the function of this organ are called functional prostheses, and the prostheses prepared to compensate for its appearance and volumetric deficiencies are called cosmetic prostheses.
Some features are evaluated in determining the prosthesis that is suitable for the person. These are the age of the person, the level of work and activity, and the condition of the remaining part of the body called the stump. Of course, the physical and psychological state of the person is also important. The Social Security Institution makes the prosthesis payments if the prosthesis suitable for the patients is determined with a report. In addition, the employer in case of work accidents or the traffic and motor insurance in case of traffic accidents make prosthesis payments.
Prostheses are named according to the level of the lost leg and joint. Loss of the hip joint does not have the whole leg and hip disarticulation prostheses are used in these. Those above the knee joint are called lap, those that are above the knee are called knee disarticulation, those that are below the knee are called below the knee and those that are at the foot level are called foot prostheses.
